Vicky Keulen did pro bono work in the slums of South Africa, a dangerous environment where she created photo reports, including on Gang 26, one of the most dangerous gangs. Children have stolen her heart in these neighborhoods, where she sometimes stayed for almost a week. Africa is in my heart; my first time photography in Africa goes back 30 years, when I did some work for Doctors Without Borders in Sudan, like UNICEF. It is still something that runs through my veins: to see, meet, and make friendships; to have them in front of my camera is an honor.
Underneath, Gang 26, it is not often to have these guys in front of a camera, as they are from one of the most dangerous gangs, and normally not so willing to be photographed. There bodies and eyes do tell there story a bit. However they have to kill a familymember to join this gang.
